Strength-based assessment can be used together with other approaches. I do not believe that it (assessment) has to be an all or none experience. Strength-based assessment can be used to supplement information from other approaches. Therefore, I believe in the case of your daughter who is visually impaired information on her strengths can be useful in identifying goals and objectives for an IEP. I have not seen any criteria to determine which children should receive strength-based assessment. The research on the topic is too new. However, as I said previously, I believe that all children can benefit by focusing on their strengths. Mike Epstein
