Families and Schools Together (FAST) is a collaborative prevention and parent involvement program designed to address three problems: 1) alcohol and drug abuse, 2) violence and delinquency, and 3) school dropout. The core of the program involves eight weekly meetings usually held in the school during which positive interactional experiences for families are structured and facilitated by a collaborative leadership team. Families graduate from the program at the end of eight weeks and then participate in monthly follow-up meetings for 2 years. Evaluation results after 8 weeks show statistically significant improvement in the child's classroom behaviors, home behaviors, self-esteem, in family closeness, in parent involvement in school, and reduction in social isolation. |
