Read Our Success Stories for PEP

The Positive Education Program's mission is to provide integrated services to children and adolescents experiencing significant social, emotional, and behavioral problems, and to their families, using a collaborative, ecological approach.  PEP's goal is to enhance the strengths, reduce the discordance, and build the skills of our children and their families -- empowering them to improve the quality of their lives, to function as independently as possible, and to avoid destructive outcomes which limit their potential.

PEP now operates --

  • two early intervention centers which serve preschoolers and their parents through a parent implemented parent training program, supported by a small professional staff;
  • a consultation service to community day care centers;
  • six day treatment centers for school aged students whose difficulties have been too severe to allow school district special programs to meet their needs;
  • a day treatment based liaison program which provides schools with support to enhance the reintegration of day treatment dischargees and to serve some students preventively in their own schools who might otherwise be referred for day treatment;
  • one special needs center which provides day treatment for students with multiple handicapping conditions and unmanageable behavior, as well as consultation to schools regarding students with special needs to enhance the schools' ability to serve those students in their own settings;
  • a supported employment program for adolescents in day treatment who are able to benefit from vocational training and job coaching;
  • two group homes for adolescent boys returning to the community from psychiatric and juveniles facilities whose families are unable to receive them; and
  • a school and community-based case management program for children and youth identified as "most in need" by professionals in Cuyahoga County's service agencies.

PEP is a contract agency of the Cuyahoga County Community Mental Health Board operated under the auspices of the Educational Service Center of Cuyahoga County (formerly the Cuyahoga County Board of Education).
