1.  Brief description of program or practice:

Family Support Network is a neighborhood support network in Seattle.  It is composed of all volunteers.  Groups in neighborhood pool resources, inventory strengths in neighborhood, and use them to deal with local issues.   Focus on broader community, not just behavior problems.  They train their own family liaison staff who work with local agencies to provide family preservation and wrap around services.  They link with agencies to support families.  It has been replicated in Colorado and Canada.

Community development values around building neighborhoods and community.

  1. The fact that it's a volunteer-based network.  They have done a good job with PR and development.
  2. Effective training and certification to become a family advocate and do child welfare visitations.
  3. Clothing exchange, camp-outings, resource sharing, neighborhood bartering.
