Registering for the Meeting There are two convenient ways to register. First, online registration is available for those with Internet access on the website of our conference planning organization, Professional & Scientific Associates (PSA). Visit them at http://www.psava.com and select the Safe and Effective Schools conference on the Online Registration page. Second, you can access a Print-&-Mail version of the registration form here, which has instructions for its submission. Please note any special accommodations you may need so that appropriate arrangements can be made. Please register by August 16, 1999 to facilitate our conference planning. Should you have any questions about registration, please contact Carole Bellamy at PSA: C_Bellamy@psava.com or (703) 852-2906 Making Hotel Reservations The conference will be held at the Sheraton National Hotel, located in Arlington, Virginia. It begins at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 15, 1999 and concludes at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, September 17, 1999. An optional panel session will take place from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Friday. This will be an opportunity for state representatives and Federal officials to engage in additional dialogue. A limited number of rooms are available at the government rate of $115 plus tax (single occupancy) or $135 plus tax (double occupancy). This rate is only guaranteed until August 14, 1999. Please make your reservations early to ensure that you get the best rate possible. Rooms are equipped with data ports, irons, and other amenities for your convenience. To make reservations, call the hotel at (800) 468-9090 or (703) 521-1900. You should specify that you are with the Safe and Effective Schools meeting. The hotels fax number is (703) 521-2122 and the address is Columbia Pike & Washington Boulevard, Arlington, VA, 22204.
Travel and Provisions There is no registration fee for this conference; however, participants will be responsible for travel and hotel expenses. For those flying into the Washington, DC area, it is often less expensive to fly into Baltimore-Washington International airport (BWI), which is about 45 minutes from downtown Washington. Reasonably priced ground transportation, such as Supershuttle (1-800-258-3826 available from all three area airports) or Amtrak, can then get you either to the hotel or to other convenient parts of the city. The hotel offers a complimentary shuttle to and from Reagan National Airport that stops at doors five and nine at the airport. Meals will be available for purchase at the hotel restaurants and at kiosks in the lobby. We will provide refreshments during the meeting days and two evening receptions. Transportation is also available to nearby Pentagon City Mall, which offers a number of restaurant options, or to Washingtons Metro (subway) system, which can take you for an evening in Washington, DC. Suggestions for restaurants and other activities will be provided in your conference materials upon arrival.
Registering for Workshops On this website is a list of invited workshop presenters. Each workshop will be presented twice so that you may attend more than one session. As a team, you will decide who will attend each workshop in order to ensure full representation by your group.
